It's Spring. Don't forget to add a thorough cleaning job of your grill to your task list. In fact, you should perform this task at least twice a year, and if you use your grill more often, once per quarter would be the best practice.

1) Start by taking everything out of the cooking chamber of your grill

2) Inspect for parts that need to be repaired or replaced

3) Use a biodegradable or citrus based degreaser-full strength to loosen   and clean grease and cooking drippings from interior of the grill. Be as thorough as possible. Allow cleaner to dissolve grease/grime, approximately 20-30 minutes. Wipe off using old rags or towels. (old undershirts work great for this task)

4) Wipe down interior with a damp rag or towel (not dripping wet). Do this two or three times to wash off any cleaner residue.

5) Repaint as needed.

6) Clean cooking grids using 1/5 cup ammonia in a leaf bag. Put in grids, seal and lay down over night. The next day remove grids and thoroughly wash off, scrubbing off food particles as necessary.

7) You can also clean cooking grids by placing them in a self-cleaning oven and then use the clean cycle for both the grids and oven.
8) If your cooking unit is really old and decrepit, replace with a new one.
